Reminders and messages
Set up SMS reminders (Twilio or Africa’s Talking)
Connect your Twilio or Africa’s Talking account, choose the times offered, run a test.
What it is for
Offer your clients an SMS reminder they choose themselves. SMS are billed by your provider, using your encrypted credentials.
Before you start
Owner role. A Twilio account (Account SID, Auth Token, sender number or Messaging Service SID) or Africa’s Talking (application username and API key).
Step by step
- Click Settings › SMS reminders.
- Twilio: enter Account SID, Auth Token and Sender number (or Messaging Service SID), then Save. Africa’s Talking: Username, API key and Sender (optional) (11 characters at most).
- The test runs when you save: the label changes to Connected or Needs attention with the provider’s message.
- Under “What your clients can choose”, pick the Provider used, the Default country code, tick the Times offered (7 days before down to 30 minutes before) and Offer SMS reminders to my clients, then Save.
- Test with Send the test (number in the format +1 514 555 0100).
Expected result
“Settings saved: your clients will be able to choose an SMS reminder.” The “SMS reminders (optional)” block appears on the booking and registration forms; no box is ticked in advance. The “Latest sends” table shows Date, Number (masked), Provider and Result.
Tips
- Credentials are encrypted and never shown again; leaving a field empty keeps the saved value.
- Remove deletes the connection (and turns off SMS if it was the provider in use).
- The client can stop SMS from their page (SMS reminders for the client).
Common problems
- “Connect and test the chosen provider first.”
- The provider must be Connected before you turn the option on.
- “Tick at least one reminder time to offer your clients.”
- Choose at least one time.
- “Twilio: enter the Account SID, the Auth Token and a sender number …”
- A required field is empty.
- “Invalid number: use the international format …”
- Add the country code.
- “Too many tests. Try again later.”
- Maximum 5 test SMS per 15 minutes.
- Label “Needs attention”.
- The provider’s message gives the cause (wrong credentials, balance, unauthorized number). Fix it with the provider then save again.
